Wave Attenuating Fringing Reefs

Picture 1

Subcon has designed, tested, and deployed Wave Attenuating Fringing Reefs in multiple locations.

The design builds on Subcon’s extensive experience from Engineered Reef Substrates, and incorporates specific wave attenuation design to combine coastal protection with marine habitat enhancement.

FAQ’s

We have two installed WAFR’s, one in Western Australia, and the other in Mauritius.  Please see Case Studies below for more details.

Wave Attenuating Fringing Reef (WAFR) physically knocks high waves down to smooth the water.

They also remove energy from an ocean swell. On the ocean side of a WAFR the oceanic swells carry sand in suspension but due to the reduced energy of the wave, the sand typically falls out of suspension and settles on an beach.
