Integrated Artificial Reefs & Habitat Enhancement
We have pioneered working with nature solutions to address threats to marine infrastructure and coastal assets and enhance our marine environments.
Our integrated reefs have been utilised to enhancing declining fisheries, to building resilient coastlines, to the ethical decommissioning of offshore structures. Having now installed over 35 artificial reefs across the world, MMA has extensive experience in designing, planning, manufacturing and installing artificial reef structures – providing long-term economic and environmental benefits to communities.
MMA works closely with regulators, operators, local councils and community stakeholders to design and plan integrated reef projects that deliver for the environment and their local communities.
Project Experience
MMA designed, fabricated and installed nine buoyant ‘sculptural reef flutes’ individually tethered to the seafloor by reinforced concrete and steel pyramids.
DPIRD awarded MMA an EPCI contract for an artificial reef to be installed 7km off the coast of Hillarys, Western Australia.
MMA performed the design, construction and installation of the reef which included 128 reef modules arranged in a bow tie layout.
MMA was asked to supply patented artificial reef structures for installation offshore of Mauritius. MMA provided the moulds, consumables and fabrication supervision for the fabrication of five different reef types totalling 895 structures.
MMA lead the project with partners RecFishwest, WA Fisheries, NERA, BHP and Curtin University, to design the reef layout.
MMA performed the design, construction and installation of 2 x 90te Fish Tower modules giving the engineered reef a total volume of 1,020m3.
